Does simply mentioning "AI" get you hired?

Reader,

The question that is on everyone's mind today: if I use the keyword AI in my resume, LinkedIn profile, portfolio, will that make me more hireable?

In a survey of 1,000 U.S. hiring managers, nearly 8 in 10 said AI tool proficiency mattered in their hiring decisions (Resume Genius).

Which makes sense. A client of mine, Wayne, told me that as soon as he added the term to his current role on LinkedIn, the calls from recruiters, start-ups, and hiring managers started to flow in. All legit opportunities, all looking to hire right away.

Here is the coaching moment for you: it's super common for us to leave very important marketable information about ourselves on the table because we operate from a mindset of feeling like we are "overselling" or "I'm not an expert yet..."

The real question: since when do you have to be an expert at anything to qualify you to work in that field or on that project? Do you think that everyone working on your favorite game was truly an expert? And some of you are right now applying for your first roles in an effort to sharpen your expertise, right?

When I meet a client who is worried about being too "braggy" about their skills, I love to do a little experiment: I tell them to rewrite their resume in a "self-aggrandizing" way, pulling out all the stops.

The result is always the same. What they come up with is in fact the way they should be selling themselves.

One of the hardest things to do is to sell yourself when you're the product. Which brings me back to the point of this email.

If people are talking about AI, investing in AI, integrating AI into their workflows, then shouldn't you talk about how you use AI?

You won't need to sit with this one very long.

And talking about AI is only the tip of the iceberg. I've coached over 100 people into roles and careers in games. My instinct says there's a lot more you're leaving out of your professional narrative, and it could be the link to your next job.

Let's change that now. Take a minute to apply for my Get Hired Program and see if we're a good fit. Find out if coaching is right for you and ask me anything you want about how coaching works.

Do that here: https://tally.so/r/WObApR

Don't leave the parts of your story out that hiring managers are just dying to know.

Talk soon,

Adam
