Studios are betting bigger than ever. Here's how to protect yourself if they fail.

Reader,

GTA 6 is reportedly going to cost up to $1.5 billion to make. Call of Duty hit $700 million. And those numbers are the reason your job feels less stable every year.

Here's the math nobody spells out for you.

When one game costs more than most companies are worth, that game cannot afford to miss. So one miss means mass layoffs. We've watched it happen over and over. But here's the part that should get your attention: the more expensive the game, the more expendable the individual developer. A $300 million budget doesn't care about your ten years of loyalty. At that scale, you're not a valued contributor. You're a line item in a bet somebody else placed.

You can't shrink the budget. You can't de-risk their bet. There's exactly one variable in this whole equation you control.

How clearly your value is known.

When the cuts come, the people who go first are the ones whose value is fuzzy. "Solid team player." "Wears a lot of hats." Nobody can point to the specific, expensive problem they solve, so they're easy to let go. The people who survive, or who land somewhere better within a week, are the ones whose value is so specific it's undeniable.

That's not luck. It's built. On purpose. While you're still employed.

Here's what that looks like, starting this week.

Find your one thing. Not everything you can do. The one problem people already come to you for. The thing you get pulled into meetings for. That's your signal, follow it.

Gather your proof. Not a resume. Proof. The specific problems you've solved and what actually happened because you did. Numbers where you have them. "Cut load times 40%." "Shipped the feature that saved the launch." Do this while you still have access to your own work.

Say it in one sentence. If you can't explain the value you bring in a single line someone else could repeat, nobody will repeat it for you. And referrals are just people repeating you when you're not in the room.

Put it in the market. Tell that story publicly. In your profile, your posts, your conversations. The goal is that when someone in your network hears of a problem you solve, your name is the one that surfaces.

This exact process, finding the one thing and backing it with undeniable proof, is what I run with every client. I have a tool for it called the Proof Stack. It's how we turn "I'm good at my job" into a specific, evidence-backed case that makes you the obvious choice, and the last person anyone wants to cut. I won't lay the whole thing out here, but that's the engine behind everything above.

My clients who've built their Proof Stack beat the odds when the hammer comes down. Every time. Because they're not hoping to be kept. They're known for something specific, and specific is what survives.

That's career sovereignty. You can't control the bet your studio placed. You can control whether you're the person whose value is too clear to cut.

If you want to build yours, that's exactly what we do on a Strategy Call. We find your one thing, build your Proof Stack, and map the story that gets you to your next role or your next income stream. You walk away knowing precisely what you're the person for, and how to make sure the right people know it too.
